BASIC INFORMATION

Q: What are Sneak Peeks?
Sneak Peeks are pre-release events that provide the opportunity to preview an upcoming set at an Official Tournament Store (OTS). Sneak Peeks are primarily non-competitive events that require minimal staffing on behalf of the OTS and a high standard of sportsmanship from the players.

Only Konami OTS are permitted to host a Sneak Peek.

Sneak Peeks are run as casual events, meaning the level of rules enforcement is light to moderate. The primary goal of Sneak Peeks is to encourage all participants to have an enjoyable experience while introducing them to the newest Booster set release.

Q: Where and when is the Sneak Peek?
Cybernetic Horizon (CYHO) Sneak Peek will be held on Saturday and/or Sunday, July 21st, 2018 - July 22nd, 2018. A list of locations for currently scheduled Sneak Peek events can be found online at www.yugioh-card.com/en/events/sneakpeek/sneakpeek_current-locations.html. Please contact the OTS for exact date(s) and time(s) for their Sneak Peek.

Sneak Peeks may not start before 8:00AM local time and should not conclude after 8:00PM local time. Midnight Sneak Peeks are not allowed.

Q: What is the attendance capacity for the Sneak Peek?
Due to safety and fire regulations, each Sneak Peek has a seating capacity and it will vary from location to location. It is advised that you arrive early enough to register for the Sneak Peek so that you can ensure a spot in the event. If you have any additional questions, please contact the OTS directly at the phone number that corresponds with the event in the Sneak Peek listings page.

Q: How much does it cost to enter a Sneak Peek?
The registration fee for a Sneak Peek is the SRP of 5 Booster Packs, no exceptions. All players entering the Cybernetic Horizon Sneak Peek must receive the following items upon payment:

  • 5 Cybernetic Horizon Booster Packs
  • 1 Sneak Peek promo, Contact Gate
  • 1 Cybernetic Horizon set checklist*

*OTS have the option to print out and distribute the Sneak Peek Checklist at their discretion. Please contact the OTS and inquire if they plan on printing and distributing these.

Sales tax may not be charged for the Sneak Peek entry fee. If a region requires sales tax to be charged on entry fees, then the current entry fees should be considered to already include the sales tax.

With paid entry into the Sneak Peek event, a Duelist is eligible to participate in Open Dueling at the Sneak Peek and in any Sneak Peek tournaments the store may be hosting at no additional charge.

Q: What are the prizes for the Sneak Peek?
In addition to the items a participant receives upon registering for the Sneak Peek, they are also eligible to win an exclusive Cybernetic Horizon Game Mat. Sneak Peek Game Mats can now be distributed via two methods:

  • One (1) or two (2) Game Mats given out randomly as either door prizes or through drawings to those who registered and participated in the Open Dueling portion of the Sneak Peek.

If only one Game Mat was used as a door prize or drawing, then one (1) Game Mat given as a prize for winning a Sneak Peek tournament.

Duelists who win a Sneak Peek Game Mat by winning a Sneak Peek tournament are not eligible to win one of the Game Mats as a door prize or drawing. If a player wins a Sneak Peek Game Mat as a door prize or drawing while he/she is currently enrolled in a Sneak Peek tournament, they must drop from the tournament to be eligible for the Sneak Peek Game Mat being awarded as a door prize or drawing.

Sneak peek participants are only eligible to win a maximum of one (1) Sneak Peek Game Mat per location per day.

Q: What is the format for the Sneak Peek?
There are two (2) event Sneak Peek formats in Latin America: Open Dueling (Sealed) & Tournament (Constructed).

The primary format of all Sneak Peek events in Latin America must be conducted as Sealed Format, Open Dueling events.  Any Constructed Tournament Format must always be in addition to the Open Dueling format.

The format details provided here supersede any tournament details found in other official KDE-US policy documents.

Q: What is Open Dueling?
An Open Dueling event means there are no appointed pairings, no records of Wins and Losses maintained, and no time limit given on any given match. Players match up against others in the event at their own discretion.

Players should play a Match against five (5) different opponents using the Deck built for the Sneak Peek. A player who enters a Sneak Peek event but does not participate in any Matches, is not eligible to win one of the Game Mats as a door prize.

Once a player has their Deck built, they can Duel as much as they want against the other players in the Sneak Peek. These Duels are for fun and have no bearing on prize distribution.

OTS and staff should be able to assist Duelists that may have difficulties finding other Duelists to Duel against.

Q: What is "Sealed" format for the Sneak Peek Open Dueling?
Open Dueling utilizes Sealed Format in regards to Deck construction. In Sealed format events, participants use the five (5) Booster Packs and the Promo Card they received at Registration and build a Deck to play with. The Deck must meet the following requirements:

  • A Minimum of 20 cards must be used for the Main Deck.
  • Pendulum Monsters must go in the Main Deck.
  • Link Monsters must go in the Extra Deck.
  • All cards not used in the Main Deck are automatically considered to be a part of the Side Deck. The usual 0 – 15 card Side Deck rule does not apply.
  • All Synchro Monsters, Fusion Monsters, Xyz Monsters, and Link Monsters must go in the Extra Deck.
  • Players start out each game with 8,000 Life Points.
  • Players play a Best 2-out-of-3 Match against an opponent to declare a winner.
  • Unlike Constructed Decks, Sealed Decks have no restrictions on the number of any specific card in the Deck. A player may include as many copies of any card he or she likes, even more than three, provided all copies of those cards were obtained only from the product given for Deck-building in that event.
  • In between games of a Match, you can add, subtract or exchange cards from the Main Deck with cards in the Side Deck. Main Deck size cannot be less than 20 cards.

Players may not trade the cards they received in their product with other players until they are done participating in the Sneak Peek.

Players may not add cards they already own to their Sneak Peek Open Dueling Deck. Only the Promo and the cards pulled from the Booster Packs provided for that player at Registration may be used for Deck building. Using cards not obtained in the product directly given is considered cheating.

Q: Is there a time limit for Open Dueling?
There is no specific time limit given for players to complete any given Match during Open Dueling. The OTS may implement a time limit if it is properly advertised prior to the beginning of the Sneak Peek event.

Q: Will there be a tournament run in conjunction with the Sneak Peek?
OTS now have the option to run a tournament in conjunction with the Open Dueling. This tournament cannot replace the Open Dueling portion of the Sneak Peek.

OTS may offer this additional tournament(s) as part of the Sneak Peek festivities, by advertising it ahead of time. The number of tournaments each store will be allowed to host will vary by store.

Only Duelists who have registered and purchased entry into the Sneak Peek are eligible to participate in a Sneak Peek tournament. No additional entry fee may be charged.

Sneak Peek tournaments may not be run outside of the scheduled Sneak Peek hours.

Sneak Peek tournaments will be run as a Tier 1, Constructed event, and Duelists may incorporate cards from the Sneak Peek into their Decks.

The Sneak Peek Tournament is considered to be Official, but it is not Sanctioned. This means that the tournament will not affect the Duelist's KCGN Ratings & Rankings. The winner of each Sneak Peek tournament will win one (1) Sneak Peek Game Mat.

Decks must be constructed according to the latest Advanced Format guidelines. (See here for more information: www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/#limited_adv). In addition, cards from Cybernetic Horizon will be tournament legal for these Sneak Peek tournaments.

Duelists should check with the OTS to see if they will be running a Sneak Peek tournament(s) in conjunction with their Sneak Peek.

While a Duelist may only purchase one Sneak Peek entry per location per day (5 packs of the new set, and a promo card), they may compete in multiple Sneak Peek tournaments a day as long as they have not already won a previous Sneak Peek tournament. No additional entry fees may be charged. This is because the Open Dueling and all Sneak Peek tournaments are included as part of the same Sneak Peek entry fee you paid when you purchased your entry into the event.

All Duelists must have a valid CARD GAME ID and be in good standing in order to participate in a Sneak Peek tournament.

All Duelists must have purchased entry into the Sneak Peek in order to be eligible to participate in a Sneak Peek tournament.

Q: How long will the Sneak Peek tournament last?
Each round will consist of a best 2-out-of-3 game Match, with a 40 minute time limit. The number of rounds is determined by the number of Duelists enrolled in the tournament. Please contact the OTS for additional format details.

The number of rounds is determined by the number of Duelists enrolled in the tournament. If the OTS has chosen to run the event using Swiss Rounds, the following chart must be used:

Number of Participants*

Number of Swiss Rounds

Playoff Top Cut (if advertised)

4 – 8

3 Rounds of Swiss

None

9 – 16

4 Rounds of Swiss

Top 4

17 – 32

5 Rounds of Swiss

Top 4

33 or More

6 Rounds of Swiss

Top 8

*Number of Participants is based on how many total participants are enrolled in the tournament once Registration closes. All Duelists added to the event after registration closes should not affect the number of Swiss Rounds. Playoff Top Cut is based on the total number of enrolled participants, which includes any late Registrations.

Examples

After registration closes, 32 Duelists have registered for the Sneak Peek tournament. This means that the Sneak Peek tournament will have 5 Rounds of Swiss. Two Duelists register late, beginning the tournament with a Round 1 Match Loss. Even though this brings the attendance total to 34, only 5 Rounds of Swiss are played. If a Playoff Top Cut has been advertised, the Playoff Top Cut will go from Top 4 to Top 8.

Q: What happens if I am not done with my Match after 40 minutes? UPDATED
Sometimes a Match will not be finished when the time ends for a round. If this happens, it is both Duelists' responsibility to note whose turn it is when time is called. Duelists who require assistance with the End of Match procedures, should raise their hand and call for a Judge. The Judge should be notified that the Match is ongoing and whose turn it is. The judge may or may not stay to supervise the End of Match procedure, but should ensure that both Duelists understand the following procedures.

End of Match procedures should follow these three (3) rules:

Rule #1: If time is called while Duelists are in the middle of a Game, the current Game must have a decision (Win, Loss, or Draw)
Rule #2: Once the current Game has concluded with a decision, determine the winner of the Match by determining the number of Game Wins (or Game Losses) each Duelist has for the current Match. The Duelist with the most Game Wins will win the Match.
Swiss Rounds: If both Duelists have the same number of Game Wins, or if time was called in between games of a Match when both Duelists had the same number of Game Wins, then the Match is a Draw.
Single-Elimination Rounds: If both Duelists have the same number of Game Wins, or if time is called in between Games of a Match while both Duelists have the same number of Game Wins, they will begin a new Duel with specific guidelines.

      • Neither Duelist may use his or her Side Deck. If time was called in between Games of a Match and at least one Duelist has already accessed his or her Side Deck, then both Duelists may use their Side Deck.
      • Duelists must use a random method (die roll, coin flip, etc.) to determine who will go first.
      • The Duel will continue for a total of four (4) turns, two (2) turns for each Duelist, unless a Duelist manages to win the Duel before the four (4) turns have concluded.
        • A "turn" is defined as the start of the Draw Phase until the end of the End Phase for a single Duelist.
      • Once the four (4) turns are completed, Life Point totals are compared and the Duelist with the highest Life Point total wins the Match.
      • If both Duelists' Life Points are the same after the four (4) turns are completed, then play will continue on a turn-by-turn basis, with the Duelist with the most Life Points at the end of a turn being declared the winner of that Game.

Rule #3: If a win condition occurs during End of Match Procedures, that Duelist wins the current Game.

Keeping these three (3) rules in mind, please follow these instructions when proceeding to End of Match procedures:

  • Continue with the current Phase of the Game. Once the Phase is over, stop the game.
  • Determine a Game Winner at this point, with the Duelist with the most Life Points winning the Game.
    • During Swiss Rounds, if both Duelists' Life Points are the same, the Game is a Draw. Compare Game Wins with the Duelist with the most Game Wins winning the Match. If the Game Win totals are the same, the Match is a Draw.
    • During Single-Elimination, if both Duelists' Life Points are the same at the end of the current Phase (Step 1 above), finish the current turn. If both Duelists' Life Points are the same at the end of the turn, then play will continue on a turn-by-turn basis, with the Duelist with the most Life Points at the end of a turn being declared the winner of that Game.

Match Draws cannot occur during Single-Elimination Rounds.

Q: Can I use my own cards in my Sneak Peek Deck – Open Dueling?
Only the Promo and the cards pulled from the Booster Packs provided to that Duelist at Registration may be used for Deck-building for Open Dueling. Using cards not obtained in the product directly given is considered cheating.

Q: Can I use my own cards in my Sneak Peek Deck – Sneak Peek Tournament?
Decks must be constructed according to the latest Advanced Format guidelines. (See here for more information: www.yugioh-card.com/en/limited/#limited_adv). In addition, cards from Cybernetic Horizon will be tournament legal for these Sneak Peek tournaments. Though these tournaments are official, they will not affect a Duelist's KCGN ranking & ratings.

Q: Will I need to complete and turn in a Deck List?
No. Deck Lists are not required for Sneak Peek Open Dueling or for Sneak Peek tournaments.

Q: Can I play in more than one Sneak Peek?
Each player may only purchase entry in the Sneak Peek once per day per location. Purchasing multiple Sneak Peek entries throughout the course of the day at the same location is not allowed.  This is to give as many different Duelists a chance to preview the new set.

Once you have received your Sneak Peek items with entry, you are eligible to participate in Open Dueling and in Sneak Peek tournaments, if applicable.

Q: Can I get a CARD GAME ID number (previously referred to as COSSY ID) at the Sneak Peek, or will I need to have one before I attend the event?
A CARD GAME ID is not required to participate in Open Dueling. If the OTS is hosting one or more tournaments during the Sneak Peek and you wish to participate in a tournament, you will need a valid CARD GAME ID.

If you previously had a COSSY ID, that same number will carry over as your CARD GAME ID. You will still need to register online at https://cardgame-network.konami.net/.

If you do not remember your previous 10-digit ID, a registration staff member on-site should be able to assist in finding your correct ID. Duelists should avoid acquiring new CARD GAME IDs if the previous ID can be found.

If you do not have a CARD GAME ID number, you can get one by registering online at https://cardgame-network.konami.net/.

PREPARING FOR THE SNEAK PEEK

OTS retain the right to refuse entry to players who have engaged in criminal behavior, such as theft or violent conduct. OTS may contact KDE-US via us-penalty@konami.com if they have any questions about a player's eligibility to compete.

A current list of players who are ineligible to participate in official KDE-US events can be found at www.yugioh-card.com/en/events/suspended.html.

Any tournament official associated with or working an event cannot play in that specific event. This includes, but is not limited to, the Judge Staff, Scorekeeper, Event Staff, Store Owner, and Tournament Organizer.

Suspended persons may not enter the venue of a Sneak Peek, no exceptions. If a suspended person is discovered at the venue, they may be charged with offenses including but not limited to trespassing, as well as an extension of their suspension.

Q: What will I need to bring to a Sneak Peek?
You should bring any Dueling supplies you will need, such as paper and pen to track Life Points, dice or counters, extra sleeves to replace any that become damaged, and so forth. If you have a CARD GAME ID number, you should bring your number in case the OTS will need it. You'll also need the entry fee for the Sneak Peek, as well as money for any incidentals (food, drink, etc.).

Q: What if I lost an item at a Sneak Peek?
Duelists are responsible for looking after their own belongings at the Sneak Peek. Konami Digital Entertainment, OTS, Staff, and Judges bear no responsibility for, and cannot be held liable for, any loss, theft or damage to the person or personal property of any attendee.

Duelists who lost items should seek the Lost & Found on-site. If the item is not found on-site, Duelists are encouraged to contact the OTS within a 60-day period on the chance the lost item has been turned in.

Q: If I've never been to a Sneak Peek, what should I expect?
Sneak Peeks are local level events held at participating OTS and attract both casual and competitive Duelists who want to preview the upcoming booster set before its official release date.

There are a lot of things you should do to make sure you are prepared before heading to the Sneak Peek.

Read over the list of things you will need for the event, and make sure you have everything.
You'll have a better time at the event if you don't have too many bulky or heavy possessions to carry around, as it can get crowded there on the floor.  Think ahead while you are planning what to bring with you.

When you get to the event, you will need to register in order to play.  Please check with a staff member on site for instructions regarding registration.

Please arrive early enough before the Sneak Peek is scheduled to start to ensure you will be properly registered for the event. Supplies are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis.

Duelists are responsible for paying attention to information from judges and/or tournament staff in order to understand what is going on. If Duelists have questions about the event either beforehand or while they are there, they should check with the OTS.

Before heading to the event, all Duelists should read over the KDE-US Tournament Policy and Penalty Guidelines carefully.   These documents tell you what you can and cannot do at an event, and give you a good idea of what to expect.  You may find these Guidelines by clicking the following links.

Q: I want to judge at a Sneak Peek, instead of competing as a Duelist – how do I request to participate?
Sneak Peeks do not require Official Konami Judges to supervise Open Dueling. Some OTS will opt to have an Official Konami Judge as it provides players with a better event experience.

If you're interested in judging, you should contact the OTS for the Sneak Peek as soon as possible (use the contact number provided in the Sneak Peek Locator listing). Most OTS are always on the lookout for Judge Staff, so be prepared to provide your full name, contact information, including e-mail and phone number, and a description of your previous judging experience.

Q: Whom should I contact for more information about a specific Sneak Peek?
Your best resource for answers about a specific Sneak Peek event is the contact number listed on the Sneak Peek Locator listing. KDE-US won't be able to answer questions such as "How do I get to the venue?," "Where should I park?," "When does registration start?," and so forth. For questions such as these, you will need to contact the OTS directly.

If you have more general questions about Sneak Peeks, you can send them to op@devir.lat. Please be as detailed as possible, so we can try to provide you with the answers you're seeking!

AT THE SNEAK PEEK

Q: How long will the Sneak Peek last?
Please contact the OTS for exact date(s) and time(s) for their Sneak Peek.

Q: Can I buy and sell cards from other participants at the event?
Each Sneak Peek location may have different buying, selling, or trading policies. Duelists should contact the OTS and inquire about that store's policies regarding buying, selling, and trading.

Q: I would like to provide feedback to KDE-US concerning the Sneak Peek I attended, who should I contact?

If you attended one of our Sneak Peeks and would like to send us feedback, you can send us an e-mail about your specific event by e-mailing us atop@devir.lat .  With the header line "Latin America CYHO Sneak Peek Feedback [Store Name]". All feedback, including comments about the OTS, the judges, or the event itself, will be welcome! All feedback is always kept confidential. Please make sure your e-mail includes which Sneak Peek you attended, including date and location.
